Many visitors from around the globe come to Experience Costa Rica every year to visit its breathtaking tourist attractions. In 2018, Costa Rica was named as the most visited country in Central America, recording around 3 million foreign tourists.
This achievement is very well-deserved and comes as no surprise since the country has a lot to offer when it comes to tropical national parks, waterfalls, cloud forests, and beaches that can easily satisfy your wanderlust. You can hike, watch exotic birds, ride a zipline, surf, party, eat local foods, and more when you’re in Costa Rica.
So, without further fussing, here’s a list of places to include in your itinerary when you visit the beautiful country of Costa Rica.
Experience Costa Rica #1
Santa Teresa is widely-known as a town for hippies. It’s located at the southern part of the Nicoya Coast. You know you’ve arrived in Santa Teresa when you see hostels, surf shops, yoga retreat houses and eateries lining the road.
The aura of the town is something like in the 60’s, when the mantra “Flower Power” was still cool. Everyone wakes up early in the morning to surf, and later at night, you can party with the locals and fellow tourists.
If you want to have a good, laidback time at the beach, Santa Teresa is the place to be. Many folks who visit the town end up staying for a longer time, because of its chill atmosphere and the never-ending fun activities that people can enjoy here.

Meseta Central also known as the Central Valley, boasts its fair share of scenic natural attractions. Here you can find two active volcanoes – the Poas and Irazu, both making this place a magnet for tourists.
Another main attraction in Meseta Central is the Braulio Carrillo National Park. Visiting the park is sure to give you a breath of fresh air, especially if you have been living long in the hustle and bustle of the city.

A small town located near a popular National Park of the same name. Cahuita is sure to be a place you’re in search of a Costa Rican destination for ultimate relaxation. This part of Costa Rica has Afro-Caribbean influences, which is noticeable in its local delicacies and its culture.
Cahuita is also famous for its surfing, hiking trails and animal sanctuaries. There are plenty of bars in this small town, for evening entertainment.

Manuel Antonio is among the most beautiful jewels of Costa Rica. It’s just a 3-hour drive from the capital city of San Jose and you will discover here, a famous National Park of the same name.
The Manuel Antonio National Park houses different animal and plant species, some of which are endemic (belonging exclusively or confined to a particular place) in this country.
There are also pristine beaches, such as the Playa Manuel Antonio and Playa Espadilla Sur. These beaches are famous for diving, snorkeling and swimming.
If you’re looking for a place to stay, there are several hotels of all budget types to accommodate most travelers comfortably.
Rincón de la Vieja

It’s advisable to visit Manuel Antonio from February to April, for more favorable drier weather.
The Cloud Forests (Santa Elena and Monteverde)

Ready to get awestruck by cloud forests? If yes, you should visit Santa Elena and Monteverde, the most well-known ecotourism spots in Costa Rica.
Here you can witness nature’s beauty at its finest and diverse flora and fauna. The habitats of animal and plant species are sustained by the moisture from the clouds enveloping these forests.
